Changing Smoke Alarm Batteries
With our high ceilings, replacing smoke alarm batteries can be risky as homeowners do not want to or should be climbing ladders. Not everyone is aware that the Collierville Fire Department will come to our homes free of charge and replace the batteries in our smoke alarms. All they require is that the homeowner must purchase fresh 9-volt batteries in a number equal to the number of smoke alarms in our homes. Use of Dusk to Dawn LED Light Bulbs
Many of us leave our front and rear house lights on all night for safety reasons. When we are going to be gone for the day and returning late, some leave the lights on all day so they will be on when they return. Some also leave them ON all day and night if they are going out of town for a few days or even longer. This highlights the fact that the homeowner is not at home and could be an invitation to those who want to steal or do damage to our homes.
There is an inexpensive alternative that will provide safety and will not advertise that no one is home. Replace the existing light bulbs with dusk to dawn LED bulbs that come on in the evening and turn off automatically at dawn. You simply unscrew the old bulb and screw in the dawn to dusk bulb. They come in candle style and regular bulb styles to match our existing bulbs, and they come in a variety of wattages. They are available wherever bulbs are sold and on Amazon.
